I purchased this classic 1975 Mercedes
450 SLC for my wife back in 2003, but she preferred to drive our Buick, so I sold it to a good friend for $8000.
Unfortunately, he passed away in September, 2012 and his widow would like to sell the car. Read details by clicking
here.
I try to earn a few dollars working on and selling small sailboats, but am happy if I break even with cars.
Since we retired in 2002, we have owned four Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagons. The present wagon is still worth at
least $10,000 and I only paid $3,500 for it.
In order to save wear and tear on our Roadmaster, we bought a low-mileage 1991 Honda Accord
in April of 2010. The Honda was a great car, but I sold it one year later for $1250, which is what I paid for it. It had
developed valve chatter and I stated this clearly in the Craigslist ad. Still, 25 people responded to the ad within
two hours! I posted it Wednesday evening and when I woke up at 6:00 AM Thursday morning, there was a young couple in
our driveway with cash!
I always liked the 1994-96 Buick Century, so began looking for one with low mileage. During my quest, I happened across a
pristine 1982 Buick Skylark with less than 25,000 miles on it. It
was being auctioned to the highest bidder on eBay. There were only a couple of bids and the car was about to be sold
for $2,000. I quickly studied the ad and read all the details. Deciding that I wouldn't be held accountable if the seller
was not being honest, I threw in a bid for $2500 and got it for $2,200.
What I really wanted was a daily driver, so we wouldn't be using the Roadmaster so much, but I only drove the Skylark about 2,000
miles because I hated to drive it in rain! When summer turned to autumn and winter was approaching, I decided that
the Skylark was too nice to subject to snow and salt. I sold it for $2,500 (too cheap!) and bought a 1994 Buick Century
for $1,200. We drove the '94 Century 5,000 miles in five months, but winter was so mild, I could have driven the Skylark!
In April, 2012, I found a much nicer 1995 Buick
Century and sold the '94 for what I paid for it.
